Converge2013 doesn’t officially close until Friday at noon, but since I have a 9:30 flight tomorrow morning, this is my last day. Every year I believe that I’ve been to the best IAUG conference that could ever be held, but I am pretty sure that I will feel the same about the next one. They really do get better every year. The breakout sessions become more relevant and instructive, the speakers are more exciting, the networking more essential, the trade show has more pizzazz, and the parties…well, let’s just say that what happens at IAUG, stays at IAUG.
On top of another fun day of booth duty – I honestly love meeting with customers to understand the particulars of their enterprises – I did my “Undercover SIP” parts one and two. I will admit that this one was a little scary for me. Not because I don’t understand the subject matter. Let’s face it, as one conference attendee put it, “I live, breathe, and sleep SIP.” Instead, the fear was how to talk about something as big as the SIP protocol in two hours. I teach a class at Arrow SI University where I get two and a half days to dig into the bowels of INVITE messages, To and From tags, Timer-B, and that’s just barely enough time to really grasp the underpinnings of SIP. Two hours seemed nearly impossible. However, I kept the focus on the most important aspects and idiosyncrasies and I think I did a pretty good job of providing the audience with a decent foundation from which to build upon. At least that is what my “students” told me.
Tonight is the IAUG party and The Goo-Goo Dolls are the main attraction. I have yet to decide whether I will go or not. I am not as young as I used to be and my ears are still ringing from Mat Kearny’s show at the Arrow SI party last night. The thought of a good night’s sleep after all this commotion sounds awfully attractive right now.
It has been very fun doing these “live from Converge2013” blogs, but all things must come to an end. I will be back in the office on Monday and my inbox is already filled with requests to meet with this customer or that. I love these events where I get to stand in front of hundreds of people and pretend that I know more than I really do, but sometimes I wish the reward was something other than another plane flight to who knows where. Okay, I am kidding (a bit). As I wrote above, I love meeting with companies and these IAUG conventions are the absolute best way to let people know who we are at Arrow SI and what we can do for them.
So, with this blog I bid you goodbye from Orlando and Converge2013. Dallas 2014 here we come!
I decided to go to the Goo Goo Dolls concert.
